EDGAR — Two teenage girls were cited for operating a vehicle while intoxicated easly Saturday morning after their car crashed between Edgar and Athens while the driver was sending a text message.

The crash, reported at 2:32 a.m., occurred on Marathon County H south of Marathon County U in the town of Rietbrock.
The 16-year-old driver reportedly was sending a text message while a 17-year-old passenger operated the steering wheel, Marathon County Sheriff’s Lt. Dale Wisnewski said this morning. They lost control of the Pontiac Grand Am they were driving and it rolled over, he said.
The 17-year-old Colby girl sustained a shoulder injury, police said. The 16-year-old Athens girl was not injured.
The 16-year-old had a preliminary blood-alcohol level of 0.11 percent and the 17-year-old had a preliminary blood alcohol level of 0.075 percent, Wisnewski said.
The legal level of intoxication for motorists is 0.08 percent for those 21 and older. The legal drinking age is 21.
