Winning the Super Bowl soothes the savage beast.

Ted Thompson had a hard time connecting with fans from the start of his tenure as the Green Bay Packers' general manager in 2005 because of his reticent public offerings and draft-at-all-cost approach to roster building. The low point was the 2008 shareholders meeting, when a sizeable number of attendees booed Thompson for the impending departure of Brett Favre.

But through those six years Thompson stayed his course, drafting players and eschewing free agency to the consternation of many of the team's followers. About 5 1/2 months removed ...
