Friday practice report: Burnett has a broken hand (UPDATED)

Nov. 6, 2013

Starting safety Morgan Burnett was not on the practice field during the portion of today's practice that was open to the media, and it's unclear whether Burnett has an injury, an illness or a personal matter. It's cause for concern because the Packers have only three true safeties on their roster: Burnett, Charlie Peprah and rookie backup M.D. Jennings. Jarrett Bush, who has played mostly at cornerback this season, has experience at safety. We'll know more about Burnett's status when coach Mike McCarthy addresses reporters after practice at around 12:30 p.m. Linebacker Clay Matthews (quadriceps), cornerback Charles Woodson (foot, knee) and receiver Greg Jennings (groin) all returned to practice. On the offensive line, right tackle Bryan Bulaga (knee) was practicing again. So was right guard Josh Sitton (ankle). But backup Evan Dietrich-Smith was not. Check back after practice for an update. UPDATE (12:40p.m.): Here's the full injury report: Morgan Burnett, S, Hand, Did Not Practice, Probable Bryan Bulaga, T, Knee, Limited Participation, Probable Chad Clifton, T, Knee/Hamstring, Out Evan Dietrich-Smith, C/G, Foot, Did Not Participate, Questionable Greg Jennings, WR, Groin, Limited Participation, Probable Pat Lee, CB, Back, Limited Participation, Probable Clay Matthews, LB, Quadriceps, Limited Participation, Probable Mike Neal, DE, Knee, Out Andrew Quarless, TE, Knee, Limited Participation, Probable Josh Sitton, G, Ankle, Limited Participation, Probable Charles Woodson, CB, Foot/Knee, Limited Participation, Probable Frank Zombo, LB, Shoulder, Full Participation, Probable  Comments from McCarthy: * Burnett has a broken hand, happened in yesterday's practice. * He clubbed it today, he's probable. He wants to play. We have some time to test it between now and then. Anytime you have a broken bone in your hand, there's things you have to look at. But he and Dr. McKenzie feel like he could play. * M.D. Jennings took Burnett's reps today. * Bulaga looked good today. Bryan, Derek and Marshall, I feel we have all three of those tackles prepared. I feel good about all three of those guys. How we sort that out, we'll talk about today. I really want to see how Bryan feels after being on the FieldTurf for two days. * Zombo ready? I would say so. We'll talk about the lineups, inactive board. Defensively it would be great to have Frank out there. * Benefit to resting Bulaga another week?: That line of thinking is something I dont get into. When he's cleared to play, he's cleared to play.
