Zombo ruled out against Vikings with knee injury

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said today at his press conference that linebacker Frank Zombo hyperextended his knee and ruled him out of Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings.   McCarthy called it an unfortunate setback for Zombo, who returned to play in his first game of the season last Sunday after getting hurt during the preseason. McCarthy is hoping Zombo can return after next week’s bye.    Guard Josh Sitton suffered a knee injury and missed practice today. McCarthy said he will likely out him out of practice until at least Friday.    Cornerback Sam Shields, who suffered a concussion Sunday against the Rams, underwent normal testing and is making good progress, according to McCarthy, who didn’t rule him out of the Vikings game. Other highlights from McCarthy’s press conference: *The Vikings have an excellent run game and are averaging 163 yards rushing at home. That will be good a complement for rookie quarterback Christian Ponder, who is making his first start.   *Charles Woodson is feeling better, his medical exam is positive, and that's why he practiced today.    *The large number of dropped passes in the last two games (10) has been addressed, with the team getting extra ball drills today in practice.    *This will be left tackle Marshall Newhouse’s biggest challenge, facing the Vikings’ Jared Allen and in the noisy Metrodome.    *Tackle Chad Clifton is getting better and making progress.
