Friday practice report: No Newhouse (updated)

Nov. 6, 2013

As coach Mike McCarthy said earlier in the week, Sunday's game at Minnesota will be the biggest challenge to date for Marshall Newhouse. That challenge may have gotten tougher because, assuming Newhouse is still slated to start at left tackle, the second-year pro missed the final day of preparation. He was not at practice today, although it was not believed to be injury related. Last night, via his Twitter account (@MNewhouse74), he indicated that he was on an airplane, so perhaps he had a family matter to attend to. A further explanation is expected from coach Mike McCarthy after practice at about 12:30 p.m. Rookie Derek Sherrod worked in Newhouse's left tackle spot. Whoever plays that position on Sunday will have to deal with NFL sack leader Jared Allen (9 1/2 sacks). Others who did not practice today were: CB Sam Shields (concussion), LB Clay Matthews (quad), LB Jamari Lattimore (shoulder), LB Frank Zombo (knee), LG Josh Sitton (knee), G/T Ray Dominquez (unknown), DL Ryan Pickett (unknown) and DE Mike Neal (knee). Check back for the full injury report and McCarthy's post-practice comments. UPDATE (12:40p.m.): There were there additions to the injury report: Marshall Newhouse, T, Not injury related, Did Not Participate, Probable Ray Dominguez, G, not injury related, Did Not Participate, Probable Ryan Pickett, DT, concussion, Did Not Participate, Questionable The rest of the injury report is as follows: Morgan Burnett, S Hand Limited Participation Probable Chad Clifton, T Knee/Hamstring Out Jamari Lattimore, LB Shoulder Did Not Participate Out Clay Matthews, LB Quadricep Did Not Participate Probable Mike Neal, DE Knee Out Andrew Quarless, TE Knee Full Participation Probable Sam Shields, CB Concussion Did Not Participate Doubtful Josh Sitton, G Knee Did Not Participate Probable Charles Woodson, CB Foot/Knee Limited Participation Probable Frank Zombo, LB Knee Out McCarthy on: * Newhouse and Dominquez will be back for the game. * Pickett came in today, happened some time during practice yesterday. Feel confident Ryan will be cleared tomorrow. * Shields will undergo more tests tomorrow. That's the key day to be cleared in time for the game. * Marshall's ready to play in the game on Sunday. He's where he needs to be, with his family right now, and I anticipate he'll be back tomorrow. * So'oto has an opportunity. He's been getting ready on ST and the OLB position. We'll talk about those decisions today. Our inactive list is not where you'd like it today. * Sitton, Matthews, same category. Worked them yesterday because of pads, there's some fatigue involved and they hit their workload.
