Scouting report: Chargers' special teams

Here is Press-Gazette reporter Pete Dougherty's scouting report on the Chargers' special teams: Nate Kaeding, one of the league’s best kickers (86.5 percent field-goal rate), blew out his knee in the opener and is out for the year. His replacement, 30-year-old Nick Novak, has made 73.3 percent of his attempts in 27 NFL games but is a surprising 14-for-15 this year.  Mike Scifres (6-2, 221) has been one of the league’s more consistent punters in his 10-year career and this season ranks No. 8 in both net (39.3 yards) and No. 7 gross (48.6 yards).  With Darren Sproles gone, the Chargers aren’t as dangerous in the return game with Patrick Crayton (11.7-yards average) handling punts and Richard Goodman (22.9-yard average) on kickoffs.
