Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was named NFC offensive player of the week for the third time in 2011 on Wednesday. During the 45-38 win in San Diego, he completed 21 of 26 passes (80.8 percent) for 247 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions. Rodgers posted a 145.8 passer rating and ran 52 yards. This is the fifth career player of the week honor Rodgers has received. He is now the first player since Shaun Alexander in 2005 to be named NFC offensive player of the week three times in the first nine weeks of a season. Giants linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka was selected as NFC defensive player of the week and Cardinals punt returner Patrick Peterson picked up the special teams honor.
