Back injury delays Clifton's return

Chad Clifton recently sustained a back injury that†is delaying†his return from a torn hamstring. Clifton suffered the torn hamstring Oct. 9 at Atlanta, and as his rehabilitation progressed the Packers projected he'd at least return to practice this week. However, coach Mike McCarthy today listed Clifton as having a back injury to go with the hamstring, the first time†anything other than the hamstring has been on Clifton's†injury report. The Packers haven't placed the left tackle on injured reserve, so they're still expecting him back sometime this season. But the† recent back injury appears to have set back†Clifton's return by at least a couple of weeks. "I donít know if itís one week, two weeks," McCarthy said of Clifton's return. "Itís something thatís knocked us off schedule. We thought this would be the week he would practice ó I didnít know if heíd be able to play this week. Any time youíre dealing with backs thereís always a little more uncertainty, and thatís in Chadís case." Second-year pro Marshall Newhouse has been starting in Clifton's place.
