Packers rookie tackle Derek Sherrod broke both bones in his lower right leg, a source said this evening. Sherrod underwent emergency surgery in Kansas City, Mo. to insert a rod into his lower leg, where he sustained what the source said were clean breaks to both his tibia and fibula. The injury occurred in the fourth quarter of Sunday's loss to the Chiefs. Sherrod, the Packers' first-round draft pick, had entered the game in the third quarter after starting right tackle Bryan Bulaga sustained a knee injury. Sherrod remains hospitalized in the Kansas City area. The source said Sherrod was expected to be released on Thursday or Friday. As for a prognosis, the source said only that it was expected to be "months" before Sherrod would be able to resume any football activities.
