Chad Clifton was only a limited participant in practice today and coach Mike McCarthy at his press conference this afternoon wasn’t prepared to declare him game-ready. That means the Packers will take a thin, make-shift offensive line into their Christmas Day game against the Chicago Bears. The Packers will likely be forced to go with Marshall Newhouse at left tackle, Evan Dietrich-Smith at left guard, Scott Wells at center, Josh Sitton at right guard and T.J. Lang at right tackle. Their lone healthy backups will be Ray Dominguez and Herb Taylor, who was picked up off the street this week. McCarthy said his O-line faces a big challenge against the Bears this week. In other injury news, Ryan Pickett did not participate in practice and is still suffering the effects of a concussion from two week ago. James Starks was a full participant and appears like he will be ready to play against the Bears. Mike Neal was limited with a shoulder injury that isn’t related to his prior injury. In other highlights from McCarthy’s presser: *He said his players would be able to spend Christmas Eve and Christmas morning with their families, rather than having to stay in the team hotel. Normally the team stays at a local hotel on Saturday night before a Sunday home game. The normal meetings conducted on Saturday evening at the hotel will be done on Sunday prior to their night game against the Bears. *He has been pleased with the play of rookie Randall Cobb, who he termed mature. Has handled everything we have thrown at him, according to McCarthy, and has been asked to do a lot of different things. He isn’t worried about Cobb hitting a rookie wall. * He wouldn’t comment on whether the Packers considered signing tackle Mark Tauscher. *He said Aaron Rodgers has been the best player in the NFL and deserves the MVP award. *Desmond Bishop looked good at practice and has a chance to play Sunday if he continues to go the way he did today. *Bears quarterback Josh McCown is an exceptional athlete, makes plays with his feet and has a good arm.
