Packers name playoff captains

Nov. 6, 2013

Packers coach Mike McCarthy revealed the team playoff captains, which were voted on by teammates. Aaron Rodgers and Donald Driver will represent the offense, Charles Woodson and A.J. Hawk the defense and Mason Crosby and Jarrett Bush special teams. In other highlights from McCarthy’s presser today: *The team didn’t practice outdoors today due to high winds. Nitschke Field was good enough to practice on but the wind conditions didn’t replicate what is forecast for Sunday’s game. The temperature inside the Don Hutson Center was close to 30 degrees, and the team attempted to simulate wind conditions indoors that were closer to what it will be like on Sunday. *It will be a personal preference if players and staff members choose to attend the funeral of Michael Philbin, son of offensive coordinator Joe Philbin. The funeral is set for Friday afternoon. *There are a number of competitions going on in practice for spots on the game day active list. With most everyone on the team healthy, there will be some tough decisions. *Matt Flynn has a lot of football ahead of him and has taken advantage of his opportunities as a Packer. The offensive system is based on making the quarterback successful, but McCarthy said the individual player still must perform. *Ryan Grant is a strong presence in the locker room and he shouldn’t need any extra motivation playing against his old team, the Giants, this week. *The team works more on handling the football in practice prior to cold weather games. Ball security is paramount in cold temperatures. *Randall Cobb is a playmaker and has brought productivity to the return game that hasn’t been here since McCarthy became head coach in 2006. He likes the way Cobb puts his foot down and gets vertical. Cobb feels a lot better today than yesterday and McCarthy isn’t concerned about his availability for Sunday’s game. *Special teams has improved this season. One area in particular that was singled out was coordination between the return man and the blocking units. *Practice participation today: Bulaga full participation; Clifton full; Cobb limited; Francois limited; Jennings full; Starks full.
