Report: Packers block McAdoo from interview with Bucs

The Packers have blocked the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from interviewing Ben McAdoo for their vacant offensive coordinator position, according to Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network. McAdoo, the Packers tight ends coach, has a year remaining on his contract. He is expected to be promoted to quarterbacks coach in Green Bay to replace Tom Clements, who was elevated to offensive coordinator last week. La Canfora also reported that the Packers blocked McAdoo from interviewing with the Miami Dolphins for their offensive coordinator position, a job that eventually went to former Packers head coach Mike Sherman. The Packers have lost just one assistant coach this off-season when Joe Philbin left as offensive coordinator to become the Dolphins' head coach. Two years ago Packers coach Mike McCarthy blocked Clements from interviewing for the Chicago Bears' then vacant offensive coordinator job. NFL rules don't require that position coaches under contract like McAdoo be allowed to interview for promotions to a coordinator position with another team. The Packers couldn't block McAdoo from interviewing for a head coaching job.
