It was 53 years ago this week that the Green Bay Packers introduced Vince Lombardi as their new coach and general manager.

Lombardi, then 45, had been hired away from the New York Giants, where he had been offensive coordinator.

The Packers were coming off the worst season in their history, having fired coach Ray "Scooter" McLean after going 1-10-1 in 1958. Green Bay had gone 12 years without a winning season and 15 years without an NFL title. ...
