Kiper Mock Draft 2.0: Packers select ND safety Harrison Smith

ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. posted his second mock draft of the year Wednesday and now has the Packers taking Notre Dame safety Harrison Smith with the No. 28 pick of the NFL Draft. Smith (6-foot-2, 212 pounds) is ranked the No. 3 strong safety in the draft and No. 102 overall by NFLDraftScout.com. He started all 13 games for the Irish and ranked No. 2 on the team with 93 tackles. Smith's seven interceptions were a team-high as was his seven pass breakups. The Packers are in the market for safety help with the unknown future of Nick Collins and the lackluster play of Charlie Peprah. Here is what Kiper Jr. wrote:

"The Packers are another team that should be looking for the best value possible at either safety or cornerback, and Smith provides value here. What I like about Smith is his ability to do it all. He's not the world's greatest athlete, but any scout will tell you: At this position, you take the instincts over the athlete 100 out of 100 times. Smith gets great jumps in coverage and will get in passing lanes, but he's also outstanding in run support. You don't lose ground in one area when he's out there."
