Miss. St. DT Fletcher Cox gets advice from Sherrod, ran track

INDIANAPOLIS Mississippi State defensive tackle Fletcher Cox talked to Packers 2011 first round Derek Sherrod in Starkville last week. Sherrod is at his alma mater down rehabbing a broken fibula and tibia suffered in the loss to Kansas City. The advice? Its a grown-man league, Cox said. Just be ready for it. Cox measured 6-foot-4, 298 pounds and said he can play defensive tackle in a 3-technique and defensive end in a 5-technique. He finished 2011 with 56 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss and five sacks. What kind of athlete is he? Good enough to run track in high school. Not throw the javelin or shot put. He ran the 4x100. I was pretty fast, Cox said. I was 240 pounds. It was pretty fast for 240 pounds. Cox said he ran the second leg, but was sometimes the anchor. He was a high-jumper at first, but wanted to run. It didnt matter, I was headed for football, Cox said. I ran track, but it was no big deal.
