Packers to start free agency with $7 million in cap room

The Green Bay Packers have about $7 million in salary-cap space and easily could more than double that if they need more room.

The Packers were among 28 NFL teams that picked up an extra $1.6 million in cap room Monday when the league took $46 million in cap space from Washington ($36 million) and (Dallas $10 million) for conduct in 2010. The league, with the blessing of the NFL players union, then distributed that money evenly throughout most of the rest of the league.

The Packers don't have any immediate need for extra room under the cap, which was officially set at $120.6 million Monday. But if ...
