PALM BEACH, Fla. - The way Mike McCarthy saw it, the Green Bay Packers needed an experienced center if they were going to carry out his plans for the offense.

That's why landing unrestricted free agent Jeff Saturday after losing Scott Wells in free agency was such a monumental move by General Manager Ted Thompson. That and the fact that he hadn't signed a unrestricted free agent since 2009.
