NFL meetings day 1: Packers still exploring free agents

PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The Packers may not be done in free agency. They're reportedly interested in left tackle Demetrius Bell, a former starter for the Buffalo Bills. Buffalo radio station WGR 550 AM reported that Bell has a visit scheduled with the Packers next week. That could be a sign the Packers will part ways with veteran Chad Clifton, who played in parts of only six regular-season games last season because of injuries. Clifton's base salary for 2012 is $5.25 million, which may be more than the Packers want to pay a 36-year-old. The Packers have Marshall Newhouse, who started in Clifton's place last season but also may be unsure whether last year's first-round pick, Derek Sherrod, will be recovered from his broken leg by the start of the season. Bell, 28, has had injury problems of his own. He has played in all 16 games only once in his four-year NFL career.
