PALM BEACH, Fla. - The day before the NFL annual meetings began at The Breakers Hotel, Joe Philbin was on the back deck of the posh resort that abuts the Atlantic Ocean.
It was a quiet Sunday afternoon before three days of intense meetings for the new Miami Dolphins coach. He stood for only a few minutes, left alone with his thoughts some 1,500 miles away from where his life changed on Jan. 9 - the day his 21-year-old son Michael's body was found near where he drowned in the Fox River in Oshkosh.
