Packers pre-draft roster analysis: Receivers

Once again this April, Press-Gazette Packers beat writer Rob Demovsky will provide a pre-draft breakdown of the Packersí roster at each position heading into the April 26-28 NFL draft. Hereís the position schedule: Monday: Defensive line Tuesday: Linebackers Wednesday: Defensive backs Thursday: Offensive line Friday: Running backs Today: Receivers Sunday: Tight ends Monday: Quarterbacks Tuesday: Special teams Receivers What they have: Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson, James Jones, Randall, Cobb, Donald Driver, Tori Gurley, Diondre Borel, Shaky Smithson. Position analysis: This is perhaps the Packersí deepest position. With Jennings (67 catches, 959 yards and nine touchdowns in 13 games last season) and Nelson (68 catches, 1,263 yards and 15 touchdowns), they have two top-notch receivers. Randall Cobb needs more snaps but looks like a playmaker, too, and is a top-line kick returner. And James Jones is a solid No. 3 or 4. Donald Driver remained dependable even if his days as a big-play receiver are over. Tori Gurley and Diondre Borel both had offers to sign with other teamsí active rosters but elected to remain on the practice squad. Smithson has some return ability but spent all of last season on IR with a preseason shoulder injury. The future: Given how stocked they are at this position, Driverís days may be numbered. Heís 37 and though he remains in great shape, heís on the decline. Heís scheduled to make $5 million in salary and bonuses this season, which also works against him.
