A transcript from Nick Perry's first news conference with Green Bay media after being selected as the 28th overall pick by the Green Bay Packers in the 2012 NFL Draft: Nick Perry on becoming a Packer: "I'm excited just to become a part of this tradition. I'm ready to take it to the next level and it was a very exciting experience for me just to get the call in the first round." NP on Clay Matthews: "I played with Clay my freshman year and since then we've been boys. I'll be glad to be across from him to create problems like he did. I'm excited to be a force on the otherside of the ball." NP on the transition to outside linebacker: It's here. I can't control it. This is something I love doing. I love to play football and I'm here to do whatever it takes to compete and whatever I can do to help the team, I'm here for that." NP on possibly dropping weight to play OLB: "I'm comfortable with my weight. I see there's nothing wrong with it. I feel I'm fast and I'm able to drop into coverages, as well, as my weight now or even if I drop, so I don't think that's really an issue." NP on if he was aware of Packers need for OLB: "I was aware of it, but I wasn't sure where I was going to be drafted. I took the experiences to just stay clear and hoped that I'd get picked." NP on if he's dropped back in pass coverage before: "Yes, I have dropped back in pass coverage before. It isn't new to me, but there's a lot of work that needs to be done just to help me adjust to this transition." NP on possibly matching up against teammate Matt Kalil, who was drafted by Minnesota: "It's great competing against guys I've went against and even practiced against at USC. It's going to be an opportunity and I'd love to get after him, and I'm excited for it." NP on his draft window: "Somewhere in the mid-first round to even early second round. I wasn't sure where I was going to go, just tried to take it one day at a time. Everything worked out for the better." NP on what he offers as a pass-rusher: "I think I have the raw set skills and the mind to do it. I think I have a lot to bring to the table. There's a lot of potential that needs to be taken out of me. I coming to Green Bay and a great tradition that's going to help me improve my game and help me become a better player for years to come." NP on if he talked with Clay Matthews: "Clay congratulated me on the pick. That's where we're at now." NP moving to California from Detroit: "It was a great experience for me to get out, and mature and grow as a player and man. Just to be back our my family and the support is there, I'll be happy to be closer to home." NP on if he was a Lions fan: "I didn't grow up a Lions fan. I kind of watched a little bit of everybody. I loved different players from different teams. I wasn't quite a Lions fan." NP on if any other team called him during the NFL Draft: "Green Bay was first to call. I hadn't talked to no one before that. It was very quiet for me during the process." NP on how he handled that: "I just tried to keep my composure. It's hard just sitting around and everyone is getting called, but at the end of the day, I'm just blessed to be in this situation here." NP holding up the Packers jersey on stage: "It was awesome. Being in green and yellow is awesome to me. I'm glad to be here, I'm glad to be a Packer. I know it carries a lot of weight. I'm ready to take on the challenge." NP on why he transferred high schools after his junior years: "My school closed and I was able to go to another school and I chose Martin Luther King." NP on coming out early: "There was no one in particular that helped me decide it. No one had control over that, it was my destiny and I felt as though I had a great four years there. It's been a blast and I'm ready to take it to the next level, and ready to compete at the next level. It's been a dream my entire life and I'm taking a chance now."
