Green, Sherrod hoping to be ready for camp

Coach Mike McCarthy said the signs look good for Packers running back Alex Green and tackle Derek Sherrod to be back from their injuries for the start of training camp, but that tight end Andrew Quarless' chances for practicing when camp opens aren't as good. Green is coming back from knee-reconstruction surgery after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament on Oct. 23 against Minnesota, and Sherrod is recovering from a broken lower leg sustained at Kansas City on Dec. 18. Green will be almost nine months removed from surgery when camp opens in late July, whereas Quarless, who also had his knee reconstructed, will be only about 7 1/2 months removed from his surgery when camp starts. Quarless thus is likely to start camp on the physically unable to perform list, and there's a chance he'll remain on that list when the regular season starts, which means he'd miss at least the first six weeks of the regular season. "Andrew, I talked to him the other day and hes champing at the bit," McCarthy said. "Hes a little ahead of schedule. Hes going to be challenged for training camp. I dont know what part hell come off because obviously his injury happened late in the season in New York. Alex looks great. I think its definitely going to be one of those situations where were going to be cautious with him. And Derek Sherrod is really progressing, so Im hopeful that both Alex and Derek will be ready by training camp. And Andrew just from a timetable standpoint is a question mark (for the start of camp)."
