Green Bay Packers sign DE Phillip Merling

The Green Bay Packers keep stockpiling defensive linemen.

On Wednesday, they signed their third veteran of this offseason at that position when they added defensive end Phillip Merling, a former second-round pick who never blossomed in four seasons with the Miami Dolphins.

Previously, General Manager Ted Thompson signed defensive end Anthony Hargrove and nose tackle Daniel Muir. Both Hargrove and Muir signed one-year minimum contracts, and it's likely Merling did the same. Like Muir, Merling was a street free agent after he was released by the Dolphins last month. ...
