The auxiliary locker room, known around Lambeau Field as "The Green Mile" - in reference to the 1999 movie about death row inmates - isn't a place for guys picked 32nd overall in the NFL draft.

Rather, it's for rookies, usually undrafted ones, practice squad players and even tryout guys that seemingly have little chance of ever getting out to the main dressing room.

Yet there sits Phillip Merling, a defensive end who entered the league four years ago as a potential star. After four largely unproductive seasons with the Miami Dolphins, he's trying to resurrect his career with the Green Bay ...
