The first official days of Davon House's NFL career weren't spent so much on the football field as they were alone in his room, paging through his playbook during late-night study sessions.

In the three weeks after the NFL lockout lifted last summer, House's daily routine rarely broadened past working out, practicing and doing his best to memorize the job manual for playing cornerback for the Green Bay Packers.

The league's work stoppage forced House, a fourth-round pick out of New Mexico State, and the rest of the incoming rookies to adapt to their new careers like college students cramming ...
