Packers cancel practice, go clay shooting instead

The Green Bay Packers usually have some kind of team-building event during minicamps, and today's the day for that. An hour before they were to have practiced this morning, the Packers emailed the media to say they'd canceled today's minicamp session. According to tweets from players, they went clay shooting. WR Greg Jennings tweeted: "Out clay shooting with the team. Don't know how safe this is but it beats practicing. #havingablast" Packers players also will be taking part in tonight's Edgar Bennett Celebrity Bowl-A-Thon at Ashwaubenon Lanes, 2929 Allied Drive. It's a benefit for The Angel Fund for Children with Cancer, which provides financial and social support to families in Northeastern Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Peninsula whose children are being treated for cancer or for bone marrow failure. The Packers will return to practice at 10:45 a.m. Thursday at Ray Nitschke Field. That practice will be open to the public, weather permitting. That will be the last practice of minicamp and will be the last major event before training camp opens July 26. -- Jeff Ash, jash@greenbaypressgazette.com or follow him on Twitter @JeffAshPG
