Packers depth chart needs reality check

The Packers released their first depth chart of the season today, and it doesn’t necessarily coincide with what has been happening in training camp. For example: *Dezman Moses is listed as the fourth-string right outside linebacker, behind Vic So’oto and Jamari Lattimore, which doesn’t have much in common with reality. Whether it says it on paper or not, Moses is higher on the list. *James Jones is listed No. 2 ahead of No. 3 Randall Cobb at one receiver spot, which may or may not be true. *Tori Gurley is listed as a third-string receiver on one side, while Diondre Borel is listed as fourth-string on the other side. In reality, Borel is slightly ahead of Gurley based on camp performances. *Evan Dietrich-Smith is listed as a backup left guard but doesn’t show up at center, even though he is considered, for all intents and purposes, the No. 2 center.   *Brandon Saine is listed No. 2 at halfback ahead of No. 3 Alex Green. But if Green stays healthy, those positions should flip-flop. *Phillip Merling is listed at No. 2 left defensive end, ahead of No. 3 Mike Daniels. Nothing could be further from reality, based on training camp so far. Daniels is better than Merling, hands down. *Davon House is listed No. 3 at right cornerback behind No. 2 Sam Shields, but in camp, House has regularly been playing ahead of Shields. Coach Mike McCarthy is the first person to admit the depth chart doesn’t mean much, so take it for what it’s worth. Some other notable tidbits: *Almost 10% of the roster consists of tight ends. Is it really necessary to carry eight tight ends in camp? *Charles Woodson is officially listed as the No. 1 strong safety. *Jordy Nelson is listed ahead of Donald Driver at one starting receiver position, which is the way it has fallen during training camp. *Rookie Jerel Worthy is listed No. 2 at right defensive end behind C.J. Wilson, but ahead of No. 3 Jarius Wynn. OFFENSE WR: Greg Jennings,  James Jones, Randall Cobb, Diondre Borel, Jarrett Boykin, Curenski Gilleylen.
