Woodson: 'It's probably about time' for female refs

He's a Heisman Trophy winner, Super Bowl XLV champion and a eight-time Pro Bowler. In 15 years in the NFL, Charles Woodson has seen it all. Well, almost everything. This Thursday, the Green Bay Packers' defensive back will be on-hand when history is made and the first female official, Shannon Eastin, calls an NFL game. Barring a last-minute agreement before the NFL and its currently locked out officials, Eastin is slated be apart of the replacement crew that will call Packers' preseason-opener against the San Diego Chargers. Eastin, who's worked games in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, is one of the replacements the NFL has installed as it tries to negotiate a new collective bargaining agreement with its referees. When Woodson was asked Tuesday about the first female getting her shot at calling a game, the Packers’ defensive back didn't have a problem with it. “It's probably about time,” Woodson said. “I'm sure women have probably tried at some point along the way leading up to this point, so I would assume it's somebody qualified out there that we won't have to jump over for making bad calls. We look forward to it. That's just the way things are and the way I think it should be. So hats off to her and whoever decided to make it happen."
