Added to roster: G/T Reggie Wells, WR Andy Brewer.
Put on injured reserve: OL Mike McCabe.
Put on reserve/physically unable to perform list: G Jaymes Brooks.
The Green Bay Packers finally made their move Wednesday to address the depth on their offensive line with the addition of 10-year veteran guard/tackle Reggie Wells.
The signing of the 31-year-old Wells gives the team an offensive lineman whoís played in 117 career games with 91 starts (79 at left guard, 10 at right tackle and two at left tackle). To make room for Wells, the Packers placed offensive lineman Mike McCabe on the injured reserve list.
The team has also claimed wide receiver Andy Brewer off waivers from Philadelphia and placed guard Jaymes Brooks on the reserve/physically unable to perform list.
Wells made 90 starts for the Cardinals from 2003 to 2009 after being their sixth-round pick in the 2003 NFL draft. It was tied for the most games played by anyone on the team over that span.
More recently, Wells appeared in eight games and started one with Philadelphia in 2010. After being cut by the Eagles at the end of camp last season, Wells signed with Carolina, for whom he played five games in two separate stints. He was released for a second time on Nov. 30 and hasnít played since.
He will wear No. 68 for the Packers.
Heading into camp, the Packersí starting offensive line appeared set with center Jeff Saturday, guards Josh Sitton and T.J. Lang, and tackles Bryan Bulaga and Marshall Newhouse.
However, the positionís depth recently came into question when Newhouse sustained a concussion at last Fridayís Family Night scrimmage, leaving center-guard Evan Dietrich-Smith and tackle Herb Taylor as the only reserves with NFL game experience.
The 6-foot-2, 216-pound Brewer switched from quarterback to wide receiver midway through his career at Northwestern. He caught 76 passes for 1,118 yards (14.7 avg.) and nine touchdowns during his college career.
As a senior in 2009, Brewer set a single-season school record by averaging 16.2 yards per reception as he hauled in 57 passes for 925 yards and nine scores. Heíll wear No. 17.
McCabe, a rookie from Holy Cross, signed with Green Bay as a non-drafted free agent on May 3. He sustained a hip injury in practice on July 28.
Brooks, a rookie from Virginia Tech, signed with the Packers as a non-drafted free agent on May 7, but hasnít practiced during training camp due to a hamstring injury.
