T.J. Lang surely could have waited until later in the season, perhaps even until after the season, to start contract talks with the Green Bay Packers.

An ascending player with only one full season as a starter under his belt, another strong year could have yielded more money. Instead, the 24-year-old, who won the starting left guard job a year ago this month, opted for the sure thing. On Tuesday, he signed a contract extension that runs through the 2016 season.
