Starr says Skoronski deserves Hall of Fame recognition

Former Packers quarterback Bart Starr was in Green Bay today and made an appearance at the Lambeau Field Atrium as part of a promotion for Tide laundry detergent and the NFL.  Starr said he was pleased by the recent nomination of former Packers linebacker Dave Robinson for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Robinson played on three Packers championship teams in the 1960s and Starr said he was “very deserving” of the honor. But Starr also said there’s another former Packer from the 1960s that deserves strong consideration. “Bob Skoronski deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, big time,” Starr said of the former left tackle that played 11 seasons for the Packers. “On the other side, Forrest Gregg’s already in there. He went in when I did in 1977. But here’s Bob Skoronski, blind side tackle for a right-handed quarterback, great, our offensive captain. Fabulous player. He’s not in the Hall of Fame. I’m very very disappointed and I just hope more and more people will get on the backs of those who are at the Hall of Fame and say, ‘Look, you need this guy in there.’” There has been a strong recent lobbying effort to get another former Packers offensive lineman into the Hall of Fame, right guard Jerry Kramer. Starr said he doesn’t know whether there is sentiment among some voters that there are enough Packers players from the 1960s in the Hall of Fame. “I don’t know what the thinking is,” Starr said. “All I know is that here’s a person (Skoronski), in my humble opinion, who deserves to be in there. When I look at people who are selected and go in in similar positions, and they’re in there and he isn’t, I really get upset.”
