Wednesday practice report: Preparation for the 49ers begins

When the Packers hit the practice field at 11:15 this morning to begin preparing for Sunday's season opener against the 49ers, they did so with several key players back on the field. None was more important than B.J. Raji, who returned after sustaining a left ankle injury on the first play of last Thursday's preseason finale against the Chiefs. The defensive line was fully intact with Ryan Pickett also back at practice. Pickett dealt with a calf injury late in training camp and didn't play against the Chiefs. Special teams ace/backup linebacker Robert Francois (hamstring) also returned after not playing against the Chiefs. The only two players who appeared to be completely out of practice were running back James Starks (toe) and safety Sean Richardson (hamstring), however cornerback Davon House (shoulder) and linebacker Jamari Lattimore (ankle) looked very limited. Coach Mike McCarthy will address reporters after practice at approximately 1:40 p.m. We'll also hear from 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh and quarterback Alex Smith via conference call later this afternoon.
