Jennings says contract issue won't be a distraction

It might be wishful thinking on his part, but Packers receiver Greg Jennings hopes he won't have to address his contract status the rest of the season. Jennings is entering the final year of his contract and has talked openly the last couple of days about this possibly being his last year with the Packers. "Iím glad you guys are asking me now so we can kill it because itís a non-issue," Jennings said today. "Itís one of those deals where I canít control the situation. I have an agent. Heís working diligently on that. He knows my stance on that. I donít want to be involved in that. I donít want to worry about that from a week-to-week, day-to-day standpoint. The Packers have their people who work on that. My focus as a player and our focus as a team is the 49ers, and thatís the way weíre going about it, and that will be the way we go about it every week." The Packers typically like to re-sign their key players, so it's certainly possible they could strike a deal with Jennings before he would hit free agency in March. But it's going to cost them. Contracts for receivers have gone through the roof in the last year, and Jennings likely would be looking for a deal that averaged more than $10 million per season. "I would love to be here," Jennings said. "It is what it is. At the end of the day Iím going to play football. Iím going to play 100 percent every single snap. This is my locker. I want this to be my locker until I hang my cleats up and decide Iíll give this locker up to someone else."
