Morning roundup: What went wrong for Flynn in Seattle

When the NFL schedule came out in mid April, the Week 3 game between the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks was billed as Matt Flynn's first start against his former team. But along came Russell Wilson, the former Wisconsin Badgers quarterback who was a third-round pick of the Seahawks. Wilson beat out Flynn, the former Packers backup who signed with the Seahawks in free agency, and will start Monday night's game against the Packers. So what wrong for Flynn in Seattle? Pete Dougherty examined that in this analysis.†Dougherty wrote: "Wilson showed the stronger arm and better mobility (150 yards on 10 carries to Flynnís 6 yards on two runs). Flynnís elbow injury in his throwing arm going into the third preseason game didnít help, but by that point, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll appeared to have decided on Wilson anyway." In other news: * Dougherty's weekly look at the upcoming opponent noted how the Seahawks' running game, led by Marshawn Lynch, has taken some pressure off Wilson. * Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, speaking on his weekly radio show on ESPN Milwaukee, said he apologized to receiver James Jones for yelling at him during last Thursday's game against the Chicago Bears. That item led a notebook, which also included tidbits on punter Tim Masthay winning NFC special teams player of the week and practice-squad cornerback Brandian Ross signing with the Oakland Raiders. * Here's this week's episode of "The Insiders."
