When Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy first got his hands on the 2012 schedule back in April, two things jumped out at him: The unevenness of the first four weeks and the three straight road games that followed.

The Packers managed only a split in those first four games, which featured a Sunday-Thursday start followed by a Monday-Sunday finish.

Now, McCarthy won't coach a game at Lambeau Field for nearly a month. ...
