The Indianapolis Colts drafted quarterback Andrew Luck at No. 1 overall with the expectation that he return the franchise to the winning ways it enjoyed under former first-round pick Peyton Manning.

Two days before JIm Irsay fired him in January, Bill Polian told the Indianapolis Colts owner he'd be fine with either Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III as the team's No. 1 pick overall in this year's draft.

Polian was ready to leave it to the owner to choose which quarterback, if Irsay so desired. Polian thought both were can't-miss prospects but would have leaned toward Luck.

Irsay obviously preferred Luck. After firing Polian, who for 13 seasons ran the Colts' football operations, Irsay and his new general manager, Ryan Grigson, drafted Luck with the No. 1 pick and are looking for something ...
