Buffets can be a fun and delicious way to add variety to a meal. Though buffets are not generally thought of as healthy restaurants, the following tips will help you make the best choices for your healthy diet:

• Don’t arrive over-hungry, you’ll be more susceptible to high-fat, high-calorie breads/spreads, appetizers and other dishes. Curb your hunger before going with fruits, vegetables or broth-based soup and plenty of water.

• Look at all the choices before you start filling your plate. Make conscious and informed choices by doing some homework ahead of time and/or asking questions when you get there.

• Choose only the dishes you really love, not every one on display. Opt for smaller portions of the high calorie choices.

• Aim to fill half your plate with fruits and vegetables. This is the stuff of which healthy meals are made.

• Savor the dishes you’ve selected, slowly, and skip the seconds. Would you rather regret not eating your money’s worth or regret eating too much?
