• Choose appetizers that feature healthy vegetables, fruits or fish.

• Ask cook to reduce amount of cooking oil used.

• Don’t use the saltshaker.

• Ask for the lunch portion, even if you’re eating dinner.

• Trim visible fat from poultry or meat.

• Leave all butter, gravy or cream sauces off a dish.

• Ask for salad dressing on the side.

• Order margarine or lower-fat butter with the meal.

• If you want a dessert, choose fresh fruit, sorbet, sherbet, fruit ice, meringues or plain cake with fruit puree.
