Finley wants to play this week, improve chemistry with QB

Oct. 10, 2012

Packers tight end Jermichael Finley is still talking about needing to improve his chemistry with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but that won’t get any easier for him this week.

He doesn’t think he’ll be able to practice this week after sustaining what he called a “slightly dislocated AC joint” in his shoulder. He still hopes to play Sunday at unbeaten Houston.

“If it was up to me, I’d play,” Finley said. “But you’ve got to go through a lot of protocol and a lot of steps to play. But I feel great. I feel like I’m ready to play.”

He said he wants to play because the game is in his home state, but also because of how important the game is.

“That’s one of the reasons we’re talking about this shoulder right now,” Finley said.

Finley was injured early in the third quarter of Sunday’s game at Indianapolis. Before his injury he caught three passes for just 11 yards against the Colts. He was targeted a total of five times.

“I need the quarterback on my side, and I need to catch the ball when he throws it to me,” Finley said. “It takes two things to get that going. So the chemistry, I feel like we need to get that going.”

When asked about the chemistry with Rodgers, which Finley first brought up as an issue late last season, he said: “It’s OK.”

But not good enough?

“Not good enough at all,” he said. “Something to be worked on, and try to work on it as much as I can, try to talk to him as much as I can. But like I said, it takes two people.”
