Rodgers has high praise for receivers, especially Cobb

Oct. 16, 2012

Aaron Rodgers had high praise for his wide receivers after throwing for a franchise-tying six touchdowns against the Houston Texans Sunday night.

He saved the biggest compliment for second-year receiver Randall Cobb.

“Randall is probably going to go down as one of the better picks in Ted Thompson’s career, if not the best,” said Rodgers on his ESPN Milwaukee radio show on Tuesday (http://tinyurl.com/8cmlex8).

“I think to get him where we got him, the kind of person that he is, the approach that he has, his knowledge of the game, what he adds to our team, his locker room presence, he is a personnel and a coach’s dream. He’s a lot of fun to play with.”

The Packers drafted Cobb in the second round in 2011 with the 64th overall pick.

Rodgers also talked up Jordy Nelson, who had three touchdown catches in Houston, and James Jones, who had two TDs.

“He’s a big-time player,” said Rodgers of Nelson. “He had an incredible year last year and has been getting a lot of attention with Greg (Jennings) out. He just runs such crisp routes. And he’s a big guy with real good body control. Very versatile.”

For the third straight game Jones has enjoyed a two-touchdown game, which puts him in the company of Don Hutson in Packers history.

“I think it’s opportunity and mindset,” said Rodgers of Jones’ recent success. “I think he really looks at himself as a top receiver now. Once you start believing that about yourself, that confidence, you can’t help but filter (that) out into your teammates, the guy throwing you the ball, me. The guys across the board have a lot of confidence in him. They expect him to make the catches, expect him to make the plays, expect him to make a big play in a big-time situation.”

Injury news: Rodgers revealed on his radio show that he injured his leg on the touchdown run that was called back against the Texans in the third quarter. He said it might show up on the team injury report, but that he will be good to go.
