Here is Pete Dougherty's scouting report on the Rams' rushing defense based on interviews with coaches and scouts:
Coach Jeff Fisher's background is on defense and in the Buddy Ryan scheme, and he runs a pressure-oriented 4-3 that's loosely derived from Ryan's 46 defense made famous with the Chicago Bears in the 1980s.
With defensive coordinator Gregg Williams suspended indefinitely, assistants Dave McGinnis, Chuck Cecil and Blake Williams are sharing coordinator duties. The Rams rank No. 7 in yards allowed, No. 5 in points allowed and No. 13 in rushing yards allowed.
They have a potentially dominating defensive tackle in rookie Michael Brockers (6-6, 322), the No. 14 pick overall who is raw after leaving LSU after his redshirt sophomore season.
James Laurinaitis (6-2, 250) is one of the best middle linebackers in the game. He's not a big hitter but has added weight since college and is a hustler with good instincts and speed.
