Here is Pete Dougherty's scouting report on the Rams' special teams:
The Rams have the NFL's newest kicking sensation, rookie Greg Zuerlein (6-0, 187), a sixth-round pick from Missouri Western. His leg strength is off the charts. Last week, he had plenty of distance but missed barely wide left on a 66-yard field goal that would have tied the game in the final seconds.
Reports from training camp said he routinely made kicks from 60 yards, and he's told reporters he made a 70-yarder in a live drill in college practice. He made his first 13 attempts this season, including four from 50 yards or more, before going 0-for-3 last week with misses from 37, 52 and 66 yards.
Punter John Hekker (6-5, 227), an undrafted rookie from Oregon State, ranks No. 7 in gross average (49.0 yards) and No. 12 in net average (40.9 yards).
With Danny Amendola out, Janoris Jenkins is the punt returner (4.8-yard average on nine returns), and Isaiah Pead (20.3-yard average on three returns) and Chris Givens (27.0-yard average on two returns) share kickoff returns.
