Morning roundup: Packers finally win back-to-back

Oct. 22, 2012

The Green Bay Packers picked up another statement victory on Sunday and they did it with help from one of their blossoming weapons on offense.

Cobb, the second-year pro with the receiving and running skills to line up almost anywhere on the field, had the best game of his young career in the Packers’ 30-20 win over the St. Louis Rams at the Edward Jones Dome on Sunday afternoon.

As Press-Gazette reporter Pete Dougherty writes, the Packers made Cobb a centerpiece in their offense against an ascending young Rams defense that came into this game 3-0 at home. Cobb delivered with 108 yards on nine touches, including three crucial receptions on the clock-eating, game-sealing 80-yard touchdown drive in the fourth quarter that gave the Packers a two-touchdown lead with only 3 minutes, 6 seconds to play.

“He’s a star in the making,” quarterback Aaron Rodgers said of Cobb. “He’s a big-time player.”

*In his Sunday sidebar, Dougherty looks at Rodgers’ returning to his record-setting form from 2011. In his last two games, he’s thrown for 780 yards, nine touchdown passes, no interceptions, a 73.0 completion percentage and a passer rating of 140.8.
