Packers coach Mike McCarthy spoke to the media on Monday following Sunday's 30-20 win over St. Louis Rams. Here are some other highlights from his news conference:

*Charles Woodson broke his collarbone and is out approximately six weeks.

*Packers coaches were in a staff meeting this morning when they received Woodson news. Not as significant as Super Bowl injury, but had X-ray this morning. Happened on same collarbone.

*It's a bigger challenge to replace Charles Woodson. The reality is we fully expect and will plan for the next individuals to step up and continue to play better defense. That's the goal every week regardless of how we line up. It's been a tough couple weeks for us, but our younger players are prepared.

*The plan is for Woodson to come back this year.

*We played with 52 this week. That's the early plan. Obviously, the medical staff and how Charles goes through the process will be the most important part.

*Very comfortable with every player on our 52-man roster. We'll gameplan. We fully expect to continue to grow as a defense.

*You plan for the people you have in the game. Obviously, Maurice Jones-Drew is an excellent running back, but once again they're going to come in here. They need a win, but we need to get better as a football team. There's some areas we need to improve on.

*McCarthy thought they left too many 3-, 4-, 5-yard runs on the field. As far as our protection, I wish we had that first series back. The way it was called. McCarthy thought the pass-game was excellent.

*Sam Shields' biggest day is coming Thursday. If Sam could go on Friday, I'd be comfortable playing him on one day.

*You have to be happy with how Davon House played in the game. The one thing you have to be critical on was the touchdown. Thought he got off to a really good start.

*Need to get better running the football. It's on everyone. Finishing the back, perimeter blocking. Talent defense in St. Louis, challenge the line of scrimmage, so it was a good challenge but we need to perform better.

*McCarthy thought Brad Jones and A.J. Hawk were both impactful. A couple things technique-wise he'll improve on.

*Not hard to bring Greg Jennings back into lineup when he's healthy. Receivers give coaches great flexibility
