Packers moving up in NFL power rankings

Oct. 23, 2012

The Packers (4-3) have risen to between No. 5 and No. 7 in the latest round of NFL power rankings, based on a sampling of four different media outlets.

FOX Sports has the Packers rated highest at No. 5, while Pro Football Talk has them No. 6 and Yahoo and ESPN has them No. 7.

The Texans and the Bears are in everyone’s top-5, which is where they belong. Both Houston and Chicago have only one loss this season, and it came in lopsided fashion against the Packers.

Some other observations from the power rankings:

*Atlanta is the only unbeaten team in the NFL and thus is No. 1 in everyone’s rankings. Yet the Falcons don’t strike me as the best team in the NFL. They might not even be one of the five-best teams in the league.

*In three out of the four polls the 49ers are rated above the Packers, which is the way it should be. But Fox Sports has the 49ers ranked No. 7, which is too low for a team that is likely one of the three-best in the league right now.

*The Vikings, on the strength of their 5-2 record, showed up in everyone’s top-10. One comment: over-rated.

*Yahoo doesn’t have the Patriots in their top-10, which is a huge oversight.

*Despite their 5-2 record, the sliding Ravens don’t belong in the top-10.
