Packers sign two more to practice squad, shelve WR Borel

Oct. 24, 2012

The shuffling continues for the Green Bay Packers' practice squad.

After cutting defensive lineman Drew Vanderlin and offensive lineman Chris Scott on Tuesday, the Packers signed guard Justin Cheadle and running back DuJuan Harris to the practice squad on Wednesday and placed wide receiver Diondre Borel on practice squad/injured.

A 6-foot-3, 305-pound rookie out of the University of California, Cheadle signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as a non-drafted free agent on May 11, 2012. He was with the Chiefs during the preseason before being released on Aug. 27.

Cheadle played in 47 games with 35 starts for the Golden Bears and earned honorable mention All-Pacific-12 recognition as a senior in 2011. He will wear No. 65 for the Packers.

Harris, a 5-foot-8, 203-pound first-year player out of Troy University, played in five games for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2011, rushing for 42 yards on nine carries (4.7 avg.) and catching one pass for 4 yards. He spent the first 11 games of last season on Jacksonville’s practice squad.

Harris also was with the Pittsburgh Steelers briefly during the 2012 preseason after being claimed off waivers from Jacksonville on Aug. 27. A four-year letterman at Troy, he rushed for 2,635 yards and 27 TDs on 540 carries (4.9 avg.) and caught 79 passes for 553 yards (7.0 avg.) and five TDs during his career. He will wear No. 26 for the Packers.

After spending all of last season on the Packers' practice squad, the Packers re-signed Borel after being among the team's final cuts after training camp.

On Tuesday, the Packers also signed defensive tackle Jordan Miller to the practice squad. With Borel on the injured list, it leaves tight end Brandon Bostick, offensive tackle Andrew Datko and quarterback B.J. Coleman as the three remaining individuals originally signed to the practice squad at the start of the season.
