Injuries force McCarthy to cut practice short

Oct. 24, 2012

During a week in which the Packers are preparing for an uncommon opponent, the Jacksonville Jaguars, coach Mike McCarthy had to cut practice short today because of the long list of injured players.

The Packers had 12 players on their injury report, including several new additions: fullback John Kuhn (hamstring), receivers Jordy Nelson (hamstring) and Donald Driver (neck), guard T.J. Lang (elbow/wrist) and center Jeff Saturday (neck).

“It shortened practice today,” McCarthy said. “Practice was shortened today because of our medical situation. Tomorrow will probably be similar.”

Among the new injuries, Saturday said he sustained a stinger in Sunday’s win at St. Louis when a Rams player hit him from the side.

“That thing fired into my body,” Saturday said. “It stung for sure.”

Saturday didn’t miss any snaps in the game but was limited in practice today.

Lang said his elbow has been bothering him for a couple of weeks but had to get a little more treatment after the Rams’ game, which was probably why he was listed on the injury report for the first time.

McCarthy didn’t think any of the newly injured players would be in jeopardy of missing Sunday’s game against Jacksonville.

In another injury-related note, it was a hamstring injury that caused practice squad receiver Diondre Borel to go on injured reserve.
