With Nelson questionable, Boykin readies to face former team

Oct. 26, 2012

Jordy Nelsonís status for Sundayís game against Jacksonville remains uncertain after not practicing for the second consecutive day on Friday because of a hamstring injury.

Itís the first time the Packers wide receiver has dealt with a hamstring, which flared up at practice on Wednesday and forced him to sit through Fridayís final run-through.

Nelson, whoís listed as questionable, will test the hamstring on Sunday before deciding if heíll play. If he canít go, Randall Cobb would join James Jones in the starting lineup with rookie Jarrett Boykin and veteran Donald Driver assuming more active roles in the offense.

Boykin, who made the Packersí roster as an undrafted rookie out of Virigina Tech, actually signed with Jacksonville in May before being cut three days later and landing in Green Bay a week later.

ďI would say thereís a little extra, but thatís not really my main focus, trying to prove (something) to them,Ē Boykin said. ďIt is kind of funny the way it happened. But everything happens for a reason, and the way it all fell into place, thereís no better week than this week to go out there and just try to prove something.Ē

The Packers also ruled out five players for Sunday, including wide receiver Greg Jennings (groin) and Charles Woodson (broken collarbone), cornerback Sam Shields (ankle), linebacker Nick Perry (knee) and fullback John Kuhn (hamstring).

Defensive tackle B.J. Raji didnít practice Friday, but it was a planned off day after practicing in pads Thursday. Heís probable to face the Jaguars after missing the past two games because of an ankle injury.
