Scouting report: Jaguars' rushing defense

Oct. 28, 2012

Here is Pete Dougherty's scouting report on the Jacksonville Jaguars' rushing defense:

Coach Mike Mularkey retained Mel Tucker, a former University of Wisconsin assistant (1992-95), as defensive coordinator.

Tucker has held that job since 2009 and runs the 4-3 system that former coach Jack Del Rio brought to the Jaguars. Jacksonville ranks No. 26 in points allowed, No. 28 in yards allowed and No. 24 in rushing yards allowed. This defense plays hard, and the line is its strength, though there are no upper-echelon players. Defensive tackle Tyson Alualu (6-3, 304) is active, strong and uses his hands well but doesn't always produce.

Middle linebacker Paul Posluszny, a former second-round pick of the Buffalo Bills, was signed in free agency in the offseason. He's a good athlete and blitzer but is undersized (6-1, 238) and doesn't take on blocks well. Dawan Landry (6-0, 210) is a classic, physical in-the-box safety.
