If any NFL team is in the market for a running back the quality of St. Louis' Steven Jackson before Thursday's trade deadline, it's the Green Bay Packers.

But if the last eight years have taught Packers observers anything, it's that general manager Ted Thompson parts with mid- to high-round draft picks about as readily as he would a limb.

Two NFL scouts contacted Tuesday predicted the Packers would have to spend a third-round pick to get Jackson, who is prolific but aging at 29, from the Rams. ...
